Out With The Old/Make Room For the New

Every once in a while, there is a time designated in our home to de-clutter and re-organize. Some call it spring cleaning, and some call it fall cleaning (depending on the time of year that you do it). I’d like to call it “out with the old and make room for the new”. My husband and I just had a conversation about bagging up old clothes that we don’t wear anymore and making more room for our newer clothes. Every year before Christmas we get rid of our daughter’s old toys that she doesn’t play with anymore to get ready for the new toys that she will receive during the holidays and her birthday in February. As we prepare for this decluttering session, God gave me a word for this new season that we are about to walk into.

“‘For I will look on you favorably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm My covenant with you. You shall eat the old harvest, and clear out the old because of the new.”

Leviticus 26:9-10 NKJV

God has been telling me to get ready for overflow. I truly believe this word it’s not just for me, but it applies to many of you reading this. God wants us to not only receive this word, but he wants us to intentionally be prepared for the manifestation of this word. He wants nothing more than for his children to prosper in every area of our lives. Why? Because this glorifies God! We must live a life of overflow because we get to not only be a blessing to our families and loved ones but also get to be a blessing to the body of Christ. We get to take care of our families and also bless others. We can have the ability to give out of abundance and not merely ourselves.

The first thing God told me to do to get prepared for this new season is to get rid of the old and make room for the new. It makes sense practically, but it also applies spiritually. See, some of you are even holding on to old things in your heart, like past hurts and traumas. Some are holding on to old relationships, old thinking, and old behaviors. For entrepreneurs and business owners, you may be holding on to old strategies that worked years ago, but they don’t seem to be working in the times we are living in now. One thing I realize is that it is hard to let go of something or someone who is attached to a significant point of time or experience. However, God is saying, the old thing and the new thing can not coexist.

One of the ways to get rid of the old and make room for the new is to seek God about the season you are in. Your GPS can not get you directions to where you are going if it can’t pick up your current location. In the same way, we ought to know the season we are in now to understand the season God is taking us to. Of course, we know this by spending time with God in prayer and reading His word.

Another method is to acknowledge God. Get God’s input before you make any decision. He is the only one who is omniscient, meaning He knows everything. If we trust His way and not our way, He will direct us on what we should do, where we should go, and how we should do it. Proverbs 3:6 states, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” When God is leading you and you are walking with God, He will show you what belongs and what doesn’t.

The last solution I will give is to pay attention and re-evaluate when something isn’t working anymore. We can’t keep those motivation jeans forever. At one point, we have to realize it does not fit us anymore and that’s okay. God will bless us with something better. That even applies to our thought life. The way we think doesn’t fit where God is taking us and we have to allow God to renew our minds daily so that we don’t get stuck there. I am not saying you can’t hold onto things that motivate us but what I am saying is we can’t be afraid to let things go when it is time to do so. Why? Because God has bigger and better for us all! God wants the best for His kids. And one thing I have learned is that God’s best is never in our past. God can take us from glory to glory. He is a God that moves forward. Isaiah 43: 18-19 says, “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it?”. The old thing may have served its purpose for a time, but that is nothing compared to what God has for you in this season of overflow.

So let’s get ready for overflow! I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to miss this, and God in His mercy will not give us anything we are not ready for. So I encourage you to seek Jesus like never before. Read His word and pursue His presence. Receive the instructions and be diligent in doing them. Remember that abundance is for the ones who obey Him. God has so much in store for us and I am super excited! If this blessed you, please do not hesitate to leave a comment or share it with someone else. Love you all!
