Are You Ready For Overflow: Obedience

Jesus is a present help. He gave us the Holy Spirit to lead, comfort, and teach us day by day. This is less about obeying rules and more about building a relationship. As you read His Word and spend more time with Jesus, you will know His voice. This is so important as we prepare for this new season of overflow. Abundance is for those who will heed to the voice of God. My pastor always says, God’s love is unconditional but His blessings are conditional. This means that we partner with God when it comes to His promises. His promises are tied to our obedience. Obeying the voice of God is pivotal to succeeding in life.

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

-John 10:27

Step one to obeying the voice of God, is to know His voice. Have you ever picked up a phone call and you didn’t recognize the number but you recognized the voice of the person? That’s how well we should know the voice of God. We learn His voice by reading His word. The word is our blueprint. The more we read the Word, the more we understand God’s heart for us and what His will is.

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

-Romans 10:17

Step two is to listen in prayer. Yes, there should be time allotted in prayer for us to be silent and to give room for God to speak. Prayer is not just us telling God what we want or talking the whole time. Prayer is a conversation. It is a dialogue. I encourage you today to give room for God to respond to you in prayer. He will speak in different ways. It can be through music, a thought, a vision or a dream, etc. Some have even heard the audible voice of God! Amazing! How He speaks is necessary for how we need to hear it in that moment. What is significant is making sure our hearts are open and sensitive when He does.

“Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

-Hebrews 3:15

Lastly, the main point of all of this is to know His voice, hear His voice, and do what He says. Once we get to this part, nothing good will be withheld from us! As we prepare for overflow, we have to practice being led by the Spirit. Why? God knows the way for us to get to our destination. It may not be the way we want to go, but if you follow Him by faith there is nothing we can not overcome. What is even more powerful is that He wants us to follow Him, because along this path there is always someone else that will be blessed by our journey with Him. God blesses us to be a blessing to others. God wants us to live from a place of overflow so we can impact someone else’s life. You just never know who you may influence along the way. This glorifies God!

Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son—blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

Genesis 22:15-18

This passage is so powerful and I would encourage you to read the full chapter. Abraham’s obedience not only set up him and his family to be blessed, but it paved the way for all nations of the earth to be blessed through his seed. Wow! Do you see what one act of obedience can take you? Imagine if this were the lifestyle of a believer. Obedience to God is the main ingredient to overflow.

‘If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them, then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.”

Leviticus 26: 3-4

Leviticus chapter 26 is the foundational scripture God gave me to confirm this new season. In the beginning of the chapter, it gives the conditions for this promise to come to pass. I would suggest reading this full chapter also. God wants us to have an abundant life. There’s no doubt about it. If you know this word is for you, I urge you to prayerfully prepare for what God has for you and your family. As I wrap up this topic, I hope these messages gave you hope and encouragement.
