Reflections with Christia: Family First

If you read my “About Me” page, on my website latoyachristia.com, you saw that I love being a wife to my wonderful husband and a mom to my beautiful daughter. My husband, Tjaz (pronounced Chaz), and I will be married this year of 2023 for 9 years. My daughter will be 4 years old in a few days on Valentine’s Day. They are both my world and I love them so very much.

Family is first to me; not music, or even “church or outreach” ministry. As a matter of fact, my family is my FIRST ministry before anything else. What good is it if I sing for others or sing at church, but too busy to sing my daughter to sleep at night? What good is it if I gave all my energy and time to church and outreach but have nothing left for my husband when I am home? What is the point of evangelizing and reaching the masses, and I can’t reach my own family? Some may wrestle with that and think ” Well, doesn’t God come first before even our families?” My challenge to that thought is: Why do we disassociate ministry and family? They don’t have to be separate. I truly believe if God can do it out there, He can do it in my home too. Also, I ask why do we associate ministry as God? My husband said it perfectly when he stated, “Ministry is not God, but it is what God calls us to.” I said, “Yes!”. He hit it right on the nose. Therefore, I understand that my family is my first assignment and everything/everyone else comes after. That is REAL ministry.

I started to pray this prayer in 2019. I asked God,

“Whatever You would have me to do for others let it work for my family first. Let them be recipients of the first fruits of how You are operating in my life.”

I want to be anointed as a wife and mother. I want God’s anointing to flow in church, outreach, my family, and wherever He would send me.

My husband and I have the honor of leading praise and worship at our church every Sunday. Well guess what? We have praise and worship together at home with our daughter too. How much more powerful and authentic is it when we do it home first. It shows that we are not doing this for church or tradition, but this works in our own life. This works behind closed doors when no one is watching. We experience the presence of God right in our home. How amazing is that????

My prayer is that we (the body of Christ) experience revival not just in the church, but in our homes and families. I pray that marriages be restored and family relationships be reconciled, In Jesus Name. I pray that even the children will have encounters with God at home and in corporate worship with the believers. I pray that mothers and fathers be reconciled with their children. God, by Your Spirit, cause the healthy family unit in the body of Christ to be revived! No family is perfect. However, we pray that your presence fills every home and Your love overflows through us and to one another, In Jesus Name, Amen.

Now, when families come to together in unity to worship God and to enhance God’s kingdom we will experience the greatest revival we have ever witnessed. However, let it start our hearts and at home.
